Rarely, malignant tumors, predominantly basal cell carcinoma, can develop in nevus sebaceus. The most common two benign tumors which develop are syringocystadenoma papilliferum and trichoblastoma. Tumors may arise in nevus sebaceus over time however, the majority of tumors are benign.
